Nick Ryan

Nick was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in the lake country of the northeastern part of that state. He has resided in Utah since the mid-1960s. He is married with ten children and many grandchildren.

Though raised in a family with considerable art interest, he did not receive any formal art education until middle-age. He completed a minor in fine arts at Brigham Young University and taught art in public schools for eighteen years. His artistic efforts have ranged from drawing, to watercolor, to his passion, sculpture.

Wildlife themes have dominated his bronze expressions, an outgrowth of his vast outdoor experiences. The most significant aspect of his work has been strength of composition. Sufficient detail and realism are found in most of his pieces, however, he has periodically departed into subdued texture and striking abstraction of life forms. He has preferred not to label or limit himself to one style, but rather, has wanted to be able to respond to whichever approach seems dictated by the subject and the feelings it evokes in him. The scale of his work ranges from life-size to miniature.

Nick's creations have found representation in galleries in Minnesota, Colorado, Illinois, Texas, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, and Idaho. Beginning in 1997, he has participated in several major art shows and expositions throughout the country.
