DRIFTING IN
DRIFTING IN
On seasonal treks they come, some by day, others by night. At last a serene retreat is found and they slip downward, Drifting In to a well-earned rest. This work as a finished bronze, was a 'late-comer' to a series of small flying duck pieces that I have done. In sketch form for nearly three years, it sat in my studio. Maybe just waiting to "drift in". I recall Wood Ducks in my first years of hunting in northern Illinois. This species was low in population then and its comeback is a tribute to the resiliency of wildlife and man's recognition and acceptance of the role of restorer. To me it was fitting that the first in this edition was auctioned at a local Ducks Unlimited fund-raising event.
